Academy students took a master class in Indian classical kathak dance.

The Kazakh National Academy of Choreography held a master class in Indian classical kathak dance. The event was organized jointly with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center at the Embassy of India in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A master class for students of the Academy of Choreography was conducted by artists of the International School of Kathak “Shambhavi” under the direction of Mrs. Sharvari Ajit Bhide.

The «Shambhavi» dancers explained that kathak is a storytelling dance, in which it is important to convey emotions through body language and to use the art of facial expressions. The emphasis of the style is on footwork – dancers perform rhythmic foot strokes usually to the classical music of northern India.

During the master class students learned the basics of this style and tried to dance two compositions – Today and Tihayi.

At the end of the event, the «Shambhavi» artists asked for a short master class from the Academy students. The students performed pieces in various styles for the guests, including Kazakh folk and sports ballroom dances.
