“Astana Ballet” announces the start of the I Republican Contest “ASHYK SAHNA” among creative youth
As part of the policy of support for talented youth in Kazakhstan the competition “ASHYK SAHNA” is launched. It aims to unite and support young people aged 18 to 45 years in the field of art. The contest period: from December 2022 till May 2023. The prize fund is 4 million tenge.
The national contest “ASHYK SAHNA” consists of five qualifying rounds, where the winners will be identified in the categories “Choreography”, “Libretto”, “Music” and “Scenography”. The first round will be held online. The winner in each of the nominations will receive a monetary prize of 1,000,000 tenge and an opportunity to take part in creation of a full choreographic work, which will be included into the repertoire of “Astana Ballet” theater.
The jury of the competition includes the heads of the Astana Ballet theater, as well as honored figures of culture and art of Kazakhstan.
“The idea of such a competition matured a long time ago, and now, finally, there is an opportunity to realize it to the full. Our main task, as ideological founders and organizers, is to identify and support talented choreographers, scenographers, composers and screenwriters in the field of choreographic art. We want to interest young authors in their search for new ideas and forms for the development of contemporary Russian choreography,” said Mukaram Avakhri, the theater’s chief choreographer.

Summarizing of the results and awarding ceremony of the winners will take place on May 1, 2023 on the stage of “Astana Ballet” theater in Astana. The premiere of choreographic work staged by the winners of the contest “ASHYK SAHNA” will also be held on that day.
The founders of the competition Private Fund “Fund for Development and Support of Ballet and National Dance” together with the theater “Astana Ballet” with the support of the General Partner JSC “Samruk-Kazyna” and social partner Corporate Fund “Samruk-Kazyna Trust” are confident that such initiative will make a significant contribution to the development of the national choreographic art and strengthening of national traditions in the sphere of ballet art.
