Screening and discussion of a short film
Dear students, undergraduates, and faculty!
We invite you to watch and discuss the feature short film “Toyland” directed by Jochen Freidank. The film won the Oscar for Best Short Film in 2009.
The film is set in 1942 in a small German town. The little Heinrich’s friend David Silberstein is sent to a concentration camp with his family. To protect the fragile child’s psyche from the horror of the Holocaust, the German mother tells Heinrich that David has gone to a fairy-tale “toyland.” But the boy thinks he can’t miss this adventure and follows his Jewish neighbors in search of the magical kingdom.
