The Kazakh National Academy of Choreography and the Embassy of Japan in Kazakhstan held an online lecture on the development of modern dance

On Thursday, March 10, the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in Kazakhstan and the Agency for Cultural Affairs of the Government of Japan held a lecture on contemporary dance. The online event was held for the purpose of cultural exchange between the two countries, as well as informing about the current development of contemporary dance in Japan and Kazakhstan. The students of the Academy as well as students and specialists from other cities of Kazakhstan, Japan, the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan attended the lecture.

Professor Akiko Kitamura, Japanese Culture Ambassador, spoke about modern dance in Japan. In her lecture “Modern dances in Japan today” the professor told about the history of formation of modern dance in Japan, and also shared her experience of making popular works.

The event also included performances by Asel Abakayeva and Anvara Sadykova. Asel Abakayeva, master of arts, senior teacher of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography, told about the state of modern choreography in the educational activities of the Academy and “Astana Ballet” theater.

The online event was concluded by Anvara Sadykova, candidate of Art History, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Direction of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography, who told about the formation and development way of the Kazakh dance. According to Anvara Sadykova, while developing modern dance, it is important to preserve and promote the national culture. The Academy carefully pays attention to the Kazakh art of dance which is a part of national culture and global culture as a whole.
