Plagiarism-Free: Rules, Standards, and Academic Integrity

On November 21, 2025, a Science Café meeting titled “Antiplagiarism Without Mistakes: Rules, Academic Norms and Integrity” was held at the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography.

The event focused on the preparation of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral theses, the principles of academic writing, and the correct use of the StrikePlagiarism system. The speaker of the session, Serik Kazyrykanovich Zhunusov, Leading Specialist of the Department of Science, Postgraduate Education, and Accreditation, shared his extensive experience reviewing written and research works submitted by the Academy’s students. Having checked hundreds of papers over the years, he is well acquainted with common student errors, typical forms of academic dishonesty, and the capabilities of modern anti-plagiarism systems.

During the meeting, Serik Kazyrykanovich provided a detailed explanation of how StrikePlagiarism operates, the algorithms used to detect similarities, and why attempts to bypass the system are ineffective. He pointed out that any artificial manipulation—such as machine translation, symbol replacement, formatting tricks, or the use of paraphrasing tools—is easily detected by the system through structural and stylistic inconsistencies. The speaker urged students to uphold academic integrity, respect the intellectual contributions of others, cite sources correctly, and develop independence in their research work.

Students actively participated in the discussion, asking questions about acceptable limits of citation, the specifics of checking foreign-language sources, the use of artificial intelligence in academic writing, and the rules for formatting bibliographic references. The meeting was held in a lively and productive atmosphere and was highly appreciated by all participants.
