Spring of Traditions: How Nauryz was celebrated at the Academy of Choreography
From March 14 to March 23, the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography hosted a large-scale celebration of Nauryz in the format of “10 Days of Nauryznama”. Each day was dedicated to a different theme reflecting the key spiritual and cultural values of the Kazakh people.
The festive program began with “Kөpisu kүні” - a day of greetings and good wishes, when participants met, exchanged greetings and participated in a theatrical performance. The next day, “Kaiyrymdylyk”, was dedicated to charity: the Academy collected help for children with cancer and organized a volunteer action. The Day of Culture and National Traditions - “Madeniyet zhane ұlttyқ salt-dastur” - was marked by demonstration of rituals and customs, and on the Day of Family “Shanyrak” there were curatorial hours about the importance of family values.
As part of “Ұlttyқ kiim”, participants supported traditions by wearing national dress, and on the “Zhanaru” renewal day, they held environmental actions, planted decorative plants and made birdhouses. “Ұlttyқ Sport” gathered employees and students for Kazakh games competitions and a festive concert. On the day of unity and solidarity - “Yntymak” - there were shuttle jams, dance flash mobs and video greetings. The culmination was the celebration of “Zhyl Basy” - the beginning of the new year according to the eastern calendar, which was accompanied by national cuisine and warm atmosphere.
Nauriznama ended with the day of purification - “Tazaru”, when the participants organized cleaning and symbolically freed themselves from all unnecessary things to start the spring with renewed energy.
The 10 days of Nauriznama were a time of unity, inspiration, deep respect for heritage and a new outlook on the future for the Academy.
