From May 28 to June 1, 2026, the library of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography is hosting a book exhibition dedicated to May 31 – the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repressions and Famine.

The exhibition was organized by the Academy’s library with the aim of preserving historical memory and introducing readers to literature about the tragic pages in the history of the Kazakh people.

The exhibition features literary works and research devoted to the fate of representatives of the national intelligentsia who became victims of political repression. Among them are T. Zhurtbay’s three-volume edition “The Alash Movement,” containing materials from court trials against members of the Alash movement; Akhmet Baitursynov’s book “The People Live for Today, While I Live for Tomorrow”; works by Magzhan Zhumabayev; V. Mikhailov’s “Chronicle of the Great Famine”; T. Baikulov’s “The Famine in the Aulie-Ata Region”; M. Koigeldiev’s “The Alash Movement”; and V. Galiev’s “The Book That Awakened the Nation.”

The exhibition introduces visitors to the history of political repression, the tragedy of famine, and the destinies of representatives of the Alash movement and outstanding figures of Kazakh culture and literature. The books presented help readers gain a deeper understanding of the dramatic past of the country and preserve the memory of the victims of the totalitarian era.
