The Academic Council of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography of the Committee of Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter – the Academic Council) is one of the forms of collegial governance and is empowered to make decisions within the scope of authority established by this Regulation on the Academic Council.
Meetings of the Academic Council are convened by its Chair / Deputy Chair at least once a month. In special cases, extraordinary meetings of the Academic Council may be held.
Competences of the Academic Council
- consideration and decision-making on issues related to educational, socio-educational, scientific, and creative activities of the Academy;
- reduction of the study period for individuals with relevant secondary professional education or higher education of various levels;
- consideration and discussion of the Academy’s development strategy in conjunction with its medium-term plan;
- approval of the Academic Council work plans;
- approval of academic calendars for the educational process;
- approval of the procedure for providing state-sponsored scholarships to approved students in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- discussion and approval of candidates among bachelor’s and master’s students applying for the President’s scholarships of the Republic of Kazakhstan, special state scholarships of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and other titular scholarships;
- consideration of applications for the Rector’s grants awarded to students of the Academy;
- hearing of annual reports of the Rector, Vice-Rector, deans of faculties, and heads of structural units on educational, methodological, scientific-creative, international, and educational activities;
- regulatory governance of key aspects of educational activities through approval and/or endorsement of internal regulatory documents, including approval of procedures for current and interim assessment and final certification of students, transfer, expulsion, and reinstatement procedures, as well as procedures governing the emergence, suspension, and termination of relations between the Academy and students;
- preliminary approval of the annual teaching workload of the academic staff;
- consideration and nomination of Academy staff for academic titles and honorary titles;
- consideration and nomination of employees or ensembles of art and culture for state and governmental awards and honorary titles;
- initiation of new educational programs in technical and professional, higher, and/or postgraduate education in the field of arts and culture, including determination of study duration and format;
- approval of topics and academic supervisors / consultants for master’s and doctoral dissertations;
- discussion and approval of scheduled curricula for educational programs and amendments, changes (if needed), in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and internal regulations of the Academy;
- consideration and approval of textbooks, teaching guidebooks, and methodological materials for publication;
- monitoring implementation of Academic Council decisions through reports of deans, heads of departments and other structural units;
- summarizing results of all types of student internships (including research internships) and providing recommendations for improvement;
- consideration of other issues related to the Academy’s current activities that require collegial decision-making in the field of education.
