The Academic Council of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography, (hereinafter referred to as the “Academic Council”) is one of the forms of collegial governance and is authorized to make decisions within the scope of competence stipulated by the current Regulations on the Academic Council.
Meetings of the Academic Council shall be convened by its Chairperson/Deputy Chairperson at least once a month. In special circumstances, an unscheduled meeting of the Academic Council may be convened.
Competencies of the Academic Council
The Academic Council shall have the following competencies:
- consideration and adoption of decisions on matters relating to the educational, social and pedagogical, scientific and creative, administrative and economic activities of the Academy;
- consideration and discussion of the Academy’s development programs in conjunction with its medium-term plan;
- approval of the work plans of the Academic Council;
- approval of academic calendars for the educational process;
- approval of the procedure for providing scholarships to students studying under the state educational order, in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- discussion and approval of candidates from among students and master’s students, applying for scholarships of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, special governmental scholarships of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and other entitled scholarships;
- hearing annual reports of the rector, vice-rector, deans of faculties, and heads of structural units of the Academy on the educational, academic and methodological, scientific, creative, pedagogical, financial, administrative and economic, and international activities of the Academy;
- regulatory oversight of key matters related to the organization of the Academy’s educational activities through the coordination and/or approval of the Academy’s internal regulatory documents, including approval of the procedures for ongoing and interim assessment of academic performance and final assessment of students; procedures and grounds for transfer, expulsion, and reinstatement of students; and procedures governing the establishment, suspension, and termination of relations between the Academy and its students;
- consideration and approval of the annual teaching workload of the academic staff;
- consideration and nomination of Academy employees for the conferment of academic titles and degrees;
- consideration and nomination of Academy employees for state and governmental awards and honorary titles;
- initiation of new educational programs in technical and professional education, higher and/or postgraduate education in the field of culture and arts, and determination of the duration and forms of study;
- approval of dissertation research topics and academic supervisors/consultants for master’s and doctoral students;
- discussion and approval of curricula for educational programs and amendments thereto in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Academy’s internal documents;
- consideration and adoption of decisions regarding the publication of textbooks, teaching manuals, educational and methodological materials;
- monitoring the implementation of decisions adopted by the Academic Council by hearing, in accordance with the procedure established by the Academic Council, reports from the heads of faculties, departments, and other structural units of the Academy;
- reviewing the annual results of all types of practical training (research internships) undertaken by students and adopting recommendations for their improvement;
- consideration of other matters relating to the Academy’s current activities that require a collegial decision in the field of educational activities.
