A Book That Resembles Him

On December 10, 2025, in the Marble Hall of the Astana Opera State Opera and Ballet Theatre, the presentation of a new book by ballet scholar, critic, director of the Center for Contemporary Choreography Foundation, and recipient of the “Qurmet” Order, Flyura Musina, took place — Konstantin Zaklinsky: On Stage and in Life.

This book is a tribute to the life and work of the outstanding ballet artist, leading soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre, recipient of the “Dostyq” Order, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, and ballet master-repetiteur at Astana Opera, Konstantin Zaklinsky.

Despite the event’s formal nature, it unfolded in a warm, friendly, and heartfelt atmosphere.

The presentation was also attended by the hero of the book, Konstantin Zaklinsky; his spouse, prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theatre and Artistic Director of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography and Astana Opera, Altynai Asylmuratova; Director of Astana Opera, Alexander Sovostyanov; Rector of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography, Bibigul Nusipzhanova; ballet repetiteurs Rustem Seitbekov and Gauhar Usina; leading ballet soloist Bakhtiyar Adamzhan; and leading soloist Madina Unerbayeva. Artists from the Astana Opera ballet company also took part.

Flyura Musina spoke about how the book was created and emphasized the support she received from the Zaklinsky family. In 2021, Flyura Borisovna had already published a book about Altynai Asylmuratova. These two books complement each other, forming a kind of “diptych” — a single story in which the events and themes of one work continue and develop in the other.

In her speech, Altynai Abduakhimovna noted that the result is a wonderful “book that resembles him” — without pomp, showing how he lovingly devotes himself to his work.

“Diamond-eyed, monumental, a worthy example, the finest Prince of his time, sensitive, offering subtle and valuable observations” — this is how Konstantin Zaklinsky is described by his close ones, fellow artists, and colleagues.

The hero himself said he liked the book. He thanked Flyura Musina and the entire team who worked on the publication for their hard work, and expressed gratitude to everyone present for their kind wishes and warm words. He admitted that Astana has become his second home — a place where he feels not like a guest but as a full participant in creative life. Here, he can create, immerse himself in the production process, and nurture young talent.
