Ahead of National Dombra Day, celebrated annually on the first Sunday of July, the library of the Academy of Choreography has opened a book exhibition entitled “Dombra – The Voice of the Great Steppe.”

The dombra is not merely a traditional musical instrument; it is one of the foremost symbols of the spiritual heritage of the Kazakh people, embodying the rich history, culture, and traditions of the Great Steppe. For centuries, its melodies have accompanied the most significant events in the lives of the people, while the art of performing kui has been carefully passed down from one generation to the next.

The exhibition introduces visitors to publications devoted to the history of the dombra, its construction, performance techniques, and the rich heritage of Kazakh instrumental music. Among the featured books are Zh. Nazhimedenov’s “Is Playing the Dombra Easy?” and “The Dombra with Its Gentle Sound”, Zh. A. Turdygulov’s book “The Dombra. The Structure and Craftsmanship of the Kazakh Dombra”, M. Khusaiynuly’s collection “Dombra and Sybyzgy Kui of the Altai–Kobda Kazakhs”, Yu. Aravin’s book “Kazakh Instrumental Music: From Kui to Symphony”, as well as other publications.

The book exhibition invites students, faculty members, and all admirers of Kazakhstan’s national culture to discover the fascinating world of dombra art, gain a deeper understanding of the country’s musical traditions, and connect with a spiritual heritage that continues to inspire new generations.
