From 28 to 31 July 2026, the Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor, Candidate of Art Studies Gulnara Yusupovna Saitova conducted the first-ever off-site professional development course on the Theory, History, Methodology, and Practice (THMP) of Oriental Dance in Almaty.

The primary objective of the programme was to preserve the cultural heritage of Uyghur dance, promote the development of its performance and teaching traditions in the contemporary context, and enhance the professional competencies of choreography teachers in the field of national dance. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring the continuity of traditional dance practices and promoting Uyghur choreographic art within the professional community.

The programme brought together early-career choreography teachers and directors of amateur dance ensembles from Almaty, including representatives of the Guldeste, Asal, Ali, and Rukhsan ensembles.

During the four-day course, participants explored the history and evolution of Uyghur dance, its choreographic vocabulary, performance techniques, stylistic features, and stage interpretation. Practical sessions focused on teaching methodology, enabling participants to deepen their professional knowledge, exchange experience, and master modern approaches to preserving and developing the traditions of Uyghur choreography.

The educational programme was organized by Shakhinur Marszhanovna Anvarova, whose initiative made it possible to hold the course in an off-site format in Almaty for the first time, bringing together dance educators and ensemble leaders on a single professional platform.

The successful implementation of the first off-site professional development course marks an important step in expanding educational initiatives in the field of national choreography and highlights the importance of preserving, studying, and further developing the rich heritage of Uyghur dance in Kazakhstan.
