A ceremonial lecture-concert titled “Än Äleminiñ Padishasy” was held in the capital to mark the 95th anniversary of the outstanding Kazakh composer Shamshi Kaldayakov. The event brought together faculty members, students, and guests united by their interest in the national musical heritage.
The invited speaker was Aisulu Kaldayakova, PhD, Associate Professor, and Head of the Department of Music Education and Choreography at the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University.
Aisulu Kaldayakova, the granddaughter of the composer, presented an in-depth analysis of his творчество and personality, sharing personal childhood memories. In her speech, she emphasized that the songs of Shamshi Kaldayakov reflect the spiritual values of the people, combining traditions of Kazakh folk music with elements of professional art. Particular attention was given to his unique style, based on pentatonic structures, expressive melody, and a close connection between words and music.
As noted by the speaker, the composer’s творчество was shaped by the traditional culture of the aul and his family environment, where music played an important role from an early age. His works—both patriotic and lyrical—have become an integral part of national identity and continue to resonate with different generations.
The immense contribution of Shamshi Kaldayakov to the development of Kazakh musical culture is invaluable. His name is firmly inscribed in the history of the country. Notably, in collaboration with Zhumeken Nazhimedenov, he co-authored the National Anthem of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In addition to the lecture, several musical pieces were performed at the event by the Academy’s guest, Madina Asylbekova.
The lecture-concert became not only a tribute to the great composer but also an important step in promoting Kazakh musical culture among the younger generation.
