Last week, from February 2 to 7, 2026, invited choreographer Oleg Ignatyev worked at the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography.
Throughout the week, he actively participated in the Academy’s educational and creative process, conducting intensive staging and rehearsal sessions for students of the School-College of Professional Education. The work was carried out in close collaboration with the Academy’s choreography faculty, combining the experience and professionalism of the invited master with the strong pedagogical team.
The focus of the work was on structuring the choreographic material, refining combinations and ensemble coordination, as well as shaping the stage composition of the piece. The classes were held in a rigorous working format and required a high level of discipline and precision from the students—qualities that were personally noted by Mr. Ignatyev.
The result of this productive and intensive work within a limited timeframe was the choreographic piece “Grand Pas académique” set to music by Léo Delibes. The production will become an integral part of the Academy’s repertoire. Various age groups took part in the performance, symbolizing continuity between generations—the central theme of the piece.
Working on such a production plays an important role in the professional development of students, allowing them to apply their knowledge in practice, understand the demands of the rehearsal process, and gain experience working with invited specialists. Participation in creating a stage work also fosters responsibility, discipline, and teamwork skills, while deepening students’ understanding of the structure and logic of classical choreography—an essential component in the high-quality training of future ballet artists.
