On April 21 and 22, the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography will present Marius Petipa's ballet The Romance of the Rosebud and the Butterfly at the Astana Ballet theater, set to the music of Riccardo Drigo. This creation of the great Petipa was his final ballet and, unfortunately, remained unrealized during his lifetime. Many years later, this unique ballet has been reconstructed and brought to the audience.
The ballet's libretto was recreated by choreographer Vasili Medvedev and librettist Yana Temiz, based on the original libretto by Ivan Vsevolozhsky. The choreography was nearly lost and was reimagined for this production in Kazakhstan by Vasili Medvedev. The orchestral score was composed by musician and arranger Daulet Shakirov, an honored figure of Kazakhstan. The costumes, inspired by Ivan Vsevolozhsky’s sketches, were designed by artist Natalia Protasova, with Zhandos Omarov responsible for the stage design.
The ballet showcases all forms of classical dance, including large ensembles, pas de six, pas de quatre, pas de trois, adagio, and variations.
Performers: Students of junior and middle classes, as well as students of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes with one intermission.
