“SLEEPING BEAUTY” AT ASTANA OPERA: A TRIUMPH FOR THE YOUNG STARS OF THE ACADEMY OF CHOREOGRAPHY

Astana, June 20–21, 2025 — The premiere of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Sleeping Beauty” took place on the stage of the “Astana Opera” State Opera and Ballet Theatre with great success. The production was part of the international music festival “Operalia”, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The production became a true celebration of classical art, uniting world-class performers with young talents — students of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography. Their heartfelt presence, remarkable maturity on stage, and artistic sincerity captivated audiences and breathed fresh life into the legendary ballet. More than just participants, these young artists embodied the enduring legacy of the Academy’s dedication to excellence and generational continuity in dance education.

Altynai Asylmuratova — People’s Artist of Russia, Artistic Director of both the Academy and the Astana Opera Ballet Company — noted:

“Sleeping Beauty is a masterpiece of rare elegance and harmony, where every detail matters. The presence of children in this ballet brings a special sense of wonder and authenticity. I am incredibly proud of our students and deeply grateful to the families who support them on this artistic journey.”

For the Academy’s students, performing in a production of this scale was a formative experience — an immersion into the professional world of ballet and a unique opportunity to share the stage with leading figures of the performing arts. Behind their polished performance stood the tireless guidance of experienced educators, whose dedication has shaped a new generation of performers.

This production served as a vibrant symbol of cultural legacy carried forward by young performers — both graduates and current students of the Academy. Their contribution to bringing this classical masterpiece to life was significant: audiences could feel their talent, inspiration, and profound commitment in every movement. Once again, the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography reaffirms its position as the premier center for ballet education in Central Asia — a place where future stars are born. Participation in “Sleeping Beauty” marks an important step toward performing on grand stages and gaining international acclaim.
