Recommendations for students and their parents on self-help measures during quarantine

The quarantine made adjustments to our daily lives, changed the order of things. In connection with the introduction of the emergency mode, someone is forced to work from home, to study remotely, and somebody stays without income at all. In a word, people face new circumstances, having to stay long isolated from society. We do not know how long the quarantine will last, how soon the world will cope with the pandemic. Whether we notice or not, our body experiences stress from these changes. How to protect your mental health and facilitate quarantine? Here are some tips from the psychologist of the department of educational work and social issues Ibrahim Maral Bolatkhanzy.

Recommendations for parents.

Your children have grown up, they are students. However, this does not diminish the concerns associated with their upbringing. Despite their age, they also need your attention and wisdom, which will help to overcome the trials of this difficult time together. Therefore, the first recommendation applies to you personally.

“The rule of the airplane”: “first put the mask to yourself, then put it to your child” – take care of your well-being first of all. Remember, your emotional condition effects all members of family. If you feel that you are covered by a wave of emotions, try to retire, do physical exercises, breathe. Ask yourself: what is happening to me now, what do I really want, what can I do? Clarification of true desires is important, since we are not always able to interpret them correctly, and, accordingly, we are not going in the desired direction.

Make a daily routine for your family. Do not do it alone, discuss with your children, find out about their plans for the day. It is useful to make 10-15 minutes break while doing some work. Students can spend a lot of time to their study, make sure that study does not take all day. It is useful for children to wake up and do classes at the same time every day.

If you work at home organize your workspace, it is important that everything you need was in reach. Consider the time and place of work, do not forget to have a rest, at last even in office you make a break for a lunch.

Do not overload yourself with news. Perfectly to read news ones a day, maximum twice. You should not “collect negative information”. Do not browse news in search of victims of the virus. You “feed” your anxiety, and this will affect the immune system.

Define a place and time for each member of the family where he can stay alone. It is not necessary to have a separate room, it may be some place in the room, but it is important that the person has the opportunity to spend some time autonomously.

Despite the negative aspects of quarantine, there are obvious advantages of self-isolation. First of all, the family gathers together, there is an opportunity to share feelings, listen to each other, to talk. Often teenagers have problems to say the parents about their feelings. Use this time to get closer to each other. Play joint games, tell stories about yourself, it is very interesting for children. Moreover, you can arrange small home concerts, in brief, there are a lot of ways to have fun with your family.

Do not entertain the children on purpose. Preferably let them share the duties about home keeping, give them a part of responsibility, they should assist you.

Stop worrying for children. First of all, they are experiencing stress at the time as well, do not strengthen it. Secondly, your anxiety is within your responsibility. Better try to discover what is your fear, do you have reason to worry and if so, what can you do about it? As a rule, the anxiety demonstrates our deep fears. Define your fear, draw it and tear it into pieces.

Do what you enjoy to do and you will transmit the positive mood to your children.

Recommendations for students

Dear students of the Academy!

Nowadays, we all live in conditions of quarantine. Many people in the country changed the lifestyle. The study, communication with friends and relatives transferred to online format. These changes alone with suspense and uncertainty with the period of quarantine affects our physical and mental health. Therefore, self-assistance measures are actual and necessary as never before. Let’s review some of them:

  1. Make a schedule. Plan the time which you will spend to education, home work, and to yourself and follow it accurately. Keep home discipline and the measures of self-hygienic which is necessary to prevent the disease.
  2. Limit the time you spend to read news. Read them ones or twice a day.
  3. Focus your attention on lessons. Knowledge will support you forever. Knowledge makes our life full of sense, interesting, widen our comprehension, give wisdom. Uneducated people are not interesting to anyone.
  4. The most difficult issue in distant education is a lack of concentration. Therefore, organize separate zone for doing lessons, remove all distracting things, leave only necessary subjects.
  5. This period has positive aspects. Use the time to reconsider your aims and goals of life. Ask yourself: who do you want to be in five or in ten years? What can you do right now? Write your answers and begin to act. Remember, “The path belongs to those who go!”
  6. Stay alone, think by yourself. We do not often have the moments when we can listen to ourselves. Our heart tales to us in a whisper, we should stay in silence to listen to it. Think about your real desires, what you need to be happy and what you need to develop in order to save the happiness.
  7. However, pay attention to communication with the family. How often aren’t we able to say important words?! Perhaps, now it is a time to talk to them, tell them about your feelings, desires and interests. Use the time to become closer with your family.
  8. Do what you like to do. Sing, play the musical instruments, watch films, listen to music!

Whatever you do, stay home! Keep safe yourself and your family!
