Fairy tale

Students of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography will perform on the stage of the Astana Ballet in the New Year’s performance “The Nutcracker”.

Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s fabulous ballet “The Nutcracker” in the bright and expressive choreography of Vasily Vainonen and staged by People’s Artist of Russia Altynai Asylmuratova is another successful project of cooperation between Astana Ballet and the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography, in which the outstanding choreographer of our time is the artistic director.

“The Nutcracker” is one of the famous magical stories that has won worldwide fame and become a traditional symbol of the Christmas and New Year holidays. This fairy-tale story is about Masha, a gentle girl with a brave and loving heart, who managed to return the Nutcracker to his real appearance. The interesting, and most importantly, kind plot of the ballet performance “The Nutcracker” will not leave both young and adult spectators indifferent, assures Gulnar Aliyeva, the head of the concert activities department of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography.

“We have little children who just started professional training at the choreography academy yesterday and are already eager to become part of the performance, but so far they lack the necessary experience. First we put them under the tree as dolls, and on stage they watch the events unfold. Older children play the roles of soldiers, mice, as well as solo parts of little Masha, the Mouse King. This greatly motivates students for further learning, they begin to understand the meaning of daily painstaking work in the hall, and become infected with the magical atmosphere of the theater. The value of Vasily Vainonen’s “The Nutcracker” for students is that the play has parts for different ages; during the eight-year training process, students go from a doll sitting under a Christmas tree to complex parts of Snowflakes, the Rose Waltz and the main characters, says Gulnar Aliyeva.

Every year the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography prepares from two to three groups of students to participate in The Nutcracker which is about 200 students who are involved in three acts of the performance.

«We try to produce all the children who can handle dancing, so that they gain their own experience of going on stage. That is why we are preparing such a large number of participants. Everyone, without exception, is worried: both children and teachers, because they are largely responsible to the viewer who came to the theater to plunge into the world of a fairy tale» says Gulnar Aliyeva.

This year, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” turned 131 years old. The ballet was first performed in December 1892 on the stage of the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. But on the stage of the Astana Ballet Theater, “The Nutcracker” was presented to the Kazakh audience in 2017 and became a New Year’s tradition, in which students of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography take part every year.

Connoisseurs of the art of ballet will be able to watch the fabulous extravaganza “The Nutcracker” at the Astana Ballet Theater from December 25 to 31.
