The art of dance and the symbolism of ballet: fascinating master class with professor Mina Gajiyeva

In the midst of the Science Week-2024, a unique master class was held at the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography, which revealed aspects of creative interpretation of artistic images in ballet, using the example of the ballet “Legend of Love” by the famous Azerbaijani composer Arif Melikov. The speaker at the master class was a guest from Azerbaijan, doctor of philosophy, professor Gajiyeva Mina Telmankyzy.

The speaker took the participants of the master class on a fascinating journey, telling about the history of the creation of the ballet “Legend of Love” and the important role of the relationship between Yuri Grigorovich, Arif Melikov, Nazim Hikmet and Simon Virsaladze in the process of creating such a legendary ballet.

The main message of the master class was symbolism throughout the ballet “The Legend of Love”; the professor and the audience analyzed in detail the psychological portraits of the characters and their role in the plot.

In an interview for the Academy’s press service, Mina Telmankyzy expressed her delight at her stay in the capital. “I have heard a lot about the capital and I am very happy that culture and art are given such a big role in Kazakhstan. I have heard a lot about Astana Ballet, the ballet “Legend of Love” by Azerbaijani composer Arif Melikov is being staged here, I have been following the process and I am very happy to be here – at the Academy, within the framework of the Science Week-2024,” Gajiyeva Mina Telmanqizi said. She also emphasized the importance of symbols in productions, especially for the future generation, as a choreographic production is not just movements, but psychological creation of an image.
