Ballet “The Romance of Rosebud and Moth” took place on the stage of Astana Ballet Theater

On March 30, on the stage of Astana Ballet Theater there was a performance “The Romance of Rosebud and Moth” with the participation of pupils of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography.

“Forgotten performance” by Marius Petipa to the music of Ricardo Drigo was specially staged for the Academy by the world famous choreographer-director Vasily Medvedev. Its premiere took place on November 16, 2021, in the year of the 30th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The ballet “The Romance of Rosebud and Moth” is a hallmark of the educational institution. As the rector of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography Bibigul Nusipzhanova shared, the performance is the winner of the national award “Umai” in the nomination “Best Children’s Performance”, which the academy is very proud of

.”The performance involves about 130 students of different levels. The composition of the ballet changes every year, as children grow, and each time it is a new ballet in terms of performers. Therefore, staging it is not an easy process,” the rector shared.

This is Marius Petipa’s last creation, which was never staged on the stage of large theaters. The production was prepared for staging in 1904 at the Hermitage Theater in St. Petersburg, but it was never presented on the big stage. That is why it is called “forgotten”.

A few years ago, thanks to the efforts of choreographers and teachers of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography, the performance was recreated and presented on the stage of one of the leading theaters of the capital.

“This is a unique performance, no one has such a performance,” said Altynai Asylmuratova, artistic director of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation.”The applause after the end of the ballet was not silent for a long time. So the audience expressed their sincere gratitude to the artists and teachers of the Academy for the extravaganza ballet – bright, complex, fabulous, memorable. The ballet gave the audience indescribable delight. It is noteworthy that parents came to support their children not only from all regions of our country, but also from Bishkek, and a married couple from Japan even came to Kazakhstan to support their daughter, who performed one of the leading roles in the ballet.
